Please sign in and out on the sheets provided in the main hallway in front of the office. The school staff needs to know who is in the building. Also, please wear a nametag, which is provided near the sign-in book.
Understand that the principal is responsible for all the supervision of volunteers.
Come to school with a positive attitude, one that will say to the principal, teachers and students, “I’m glad to be here”.
Dress appropriately. It is recommended that volunteers dress according to the school student and staff guidelines.
Be dependable and prompt. Many people will have planned activities around you and will be counting on you to keep your commitments. If you are unable to come at your appointed time or will be late, please call the school office as soon as possible.
Keep all information about students confidential. You must not share information that can be detrimental to any individual or group. The exception to this is child abuse, drug and alcohol abuse, or extreme family difficulties. Notify the appropriate staff member in these instances.
Do not smoke in any district-enclosed facility, school vehicle, or in the presence of students at school or school-related activities.
Report to the nurse and administrators immediately if you are injured at school.
Please use telephones in the classroom for emergencies only.
Be familiar with the school building. Ask to have a tour if this has not already been offered. Know where to place your belongings (coat, purse, etc.)
Do not express dissatisfaction with the school or staff in the presence of students. Share concerns with the supervising staff person.
Do not demonstrate harassing or discriminating behaviors.
Do not attempt to establish instructional objectives, administer corporal punishment, determine punishment, or contact parents regarding the performance or behavior of students. The teachers and staff are the professional educators and, as a volunteer, you are there to assist.
