Elected Officers Job Description
President The president serves as the presiding officer of the local PTA, and presides over executive and general meetings. The president distributes all materials to the appropriate officers or chairmen. The president directs the affairs of the association in cooperation with the other members of the executive board for a term of office specified in the local bylaws.
1st VP - Programs The 1st vice president may be called upon at any time to assume temporarily the place of the president. The 1st VP may preside at meetings in the absence or inability of the president to serve. Acts as aide to the president. . Represent the president upon request. Assume the duties of the president in case of a vacancy and fill the position in accordance with the bylaws.
2nd VP - Membership The Membership chairman builds an informed and participating membership by enrolling parents, teachers and interested citizens and assures that membership lists and dues are sent to the Texas PTA Office on a weekly basis. The chairman encourages participation in state membership awards program.recipient(s) after careful consideration of qualifications for Texas PTA Honorary Life Membership and/or Extended Service Award and/or National PTA Life Achievement Award and/or Recognition Square awards. The chairman secures certificate(s) and/or pin(s) for presentation of award(s).
3rd VP - Ways and Means The Ways and Means chariman is responsible for overseeing the fundraising committee, which raises the amount of money needed to meet the proposed budget. PTA should raise only those funds necessary to meet the needs of the year's activities and projects as outlined in the budget.
4th VP - Volunteers The Volunteer chairman coordinates PTA volunteer activities in the school in cooperation with school staff. The chairman encourages participation by parents and interested citizens in the school program through volunteerism and encourages participation in the TEPSA/TASSP Parent Involvement Award competitions.
Secretary The secretary keeps accurate records of the proceedings of the association. The primary qualifications include: promptness, accuracy and a thorough knowledge of the PTA purposes,
bylaws, policies and procedures; an understanding of parliamentary law; and a sincere desire to help the president conduct a businesslike meeting.
Treasurer The treasurer is the authorized custodian of the funds of the association. The Treasurer receives and disburses all monies indicated in the budget and prescribed in the local bylaws or as authorized by action of the association. The treasurer keeps accurate and up-to-date records of the PTA's financial transactions and status, and provides them to the audit committee at the end of the year. The Treasurer reports on the status of the PTA funds at all Board and General meetings. The Treasurer files any federal tax forms for the local unit as required by law.
Historian The historian prepares and updates a record of the activities and achievements of the association and makes historical facts available on request to the membership. A permanent record of the activities should be kept in a convenient place, such as the school library.
Parliamentarian A parliamentarian should have a fair and impartial mind and attitude, as well as knowledge of parliamentary procedure. A parliamentarian in PTA--whether he serves a local unit, council or district--should have a fundamental knowledge of the Purposes, policies and principles of the PTA.

Chairman Position Job Description
Arts in Education/ Reflections The focus of the Arts in Education chairman is to promote the arts in the school and community to provide a well rounded education. Additionally, the chairman oversees the National PTA Reflections program in their school.

Council Delegate The council delegate has an essential and very important role in PTA. Each dele gate attends the general meetings of the council, representing the local unit as a voting member of the council voting body. The delegate receives information and training from the council, report actions of the council to the local unit and vote as directed by the local unit membership.
Dad's Club  
Directory The Directory chairman compiles and arranges for publication of a directory for the unit's members. The purpose of the directory is to give relevant facts and figures about the PTA unit.
Environmental The Environmental chairman develops programs and projects that will enhance the beauty of the school and community. The chairman promotes environmental education, publicizes and promotes student participation in Texas PTA Beautification Award, Texas PTA Green School Award and Texas PTA/EPA Environmental Poster Contest.

Hospitality The Hospitality chairman creates a feeling of friendliness and warmth at each PTA meeting by providing greeters, nametags, registration sheets, refreshments and other activities as planned. The chairman may provide special activities during such times as American Education Week, Texas Public Schools Week, National PTA Teacher Appreciation Week, etc.

Public Relations The Public Relations chairman submits articles and pictures regarding PTA events and issues to local media reporters and school district public relations officer. The chairman also cooperates with other community organizations in building coalitions regarding children, youth and schoolrelated activities. This chairman encourages local print media reporters to submit entries for the Texas PTA Phoebe Media Award competition.
